pop tarts: treasury teams

Since a huge percentage of our readership runs an Etsy store of their own, we thought you guys would enjoy some improvement inspiration for your shops and brands. Welcome to our new semi-regular series called pop tarts, in which Evey will share a small tip on how to improve the promotion, branding, and general marketing of your Etsy business.

I love making treasuries. My latest is below and features mostly members from The Promotional Frenzy Team on Etsy.  I think a lot of shops out there are not paying enough attention to how many views are coming from treasuries, and more importantly, how many shop views could come from a treasury feature. One little feature has the potential to set into motion a chain reaction that could land you on the front page. All you have to do is get a few people on Etsy to notice you.

Setting aside a quick half hour block of time twice a week to incorporate treasury exposure into your marketing routine will help you see a noticeable increase in shop traffic (and hopefully sales!) Just follow these steps.

Join an active treasury team (or several) that requires members to make a certain amount of team treasuries a month. These teams usually have several threads in their forum where you can post your newest items or items you want to be promoted by the team. Post in these threads a few times a day for your first week, and the members will start to notice your shop.

Create treasuries with other team member's items, and in turn they will do the same for you. You get what you give on Etsy teams, so make sure to spread the treasury love to your teammates.

Promote the treasuries you are featured in throughout the other Etsy treasury teams. Some popular teams that have active threads are click & comment, treasury promotion team, and treasury punks. Searching for treasury and/or promotion in the teams section on Etsy will produce about 30 more teams for you to explore. These types of teams work like this: you post the link to your treasury in the appropriate thread, then you comment or favorite x amount of treasuries above you, and people who post after you will reciprocate. The more comments, hearts, and clicks your treasury receives, the hotter it will be, which sends it closer to the top of the treasury list, and that means more people will see it.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

When I started my first Etsy shop, evey in orbit, I used this method to grow my traffic. After a few weeks I went from having an average of 20 views a day to over 100. Soon, I found myself lucky enough to be featured on the front page of Etsy and in a few Etsy Finds emails. I also racked up a lot of early sales in that shop through my team connections. You'd be surprised at how many buyers are on teams, and making treasuries simply to support handmade goods.

So make a note of how many total views, treasury views, and treasure features your shop gets a day. Try following these steps for a few weeks, and see the difference it makes in your exposure. Have any questions or tips about treasury teams? We'd love to hear from you!
