evey: antique mall
I did it! I officially opened an antique mall booth last week. The space is a little hodge-podge at the moment. Goal number one was simply to get everything there in one piece. Now that I have accomplished that I am stopping by every few days to try and create little vignettes. From everything I have read about the do's and don'ts of antique malls, this is the preferred way for customers to view your items. Right now I have mid century next to 70's kitsch next to retro pop... to me that sounds amazing, but I think I am overwhelming some shoppers.
The first task I took on was the "library" area. It still needs category labels, but trust me that is looks 10 times better than when I first plopped all the books in there. I found this modern bench on craigslist that was already painted a pretty turquoise. Sticking that under the bookcase brought everything up to eye level.
My favorite thing about having a booth, aside from getting all of this stuff out of my house, is that it's the perfect breeding ground for new ideas. The library garland I made was originally just for organization's sake, but so many people have asked me if it is for sale that I've decided to make more. The framed vintage map page below was another attempt to add a homey feel to my space, but now I realize those would probably do quite well on Etsy.
The space is peppered with nashpop stuff, mostly items that were leftover from the Summer flea market season. If you ever wondered what a lamp or end table would look like after going through the nashpop treatment, well you can wonder no more. There are also some Etsy shop items at less than Etsy shop prices (hint hint), so if you are a local fan you should definitely come check booth VO98 out. Robinson Flea Market - 1202 Gallatin Pike South. They are open Mon thru Sat 10pm - 6pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.
Tutorial Tuesday
I've been stumbling across some really awesome tutorials lately so I figured I would share with you!
* Soule Mama offers lots of tutorials and recipes that are worth checking out. Whip up a batch of summer orzo salad and then get to work on your very own gratitude wrap.
* Over at Comfort Stitching, Aneela offers tons of tutorials ranging from mini quilts to DIY fabric transfers.
* Lastly, check out the DIY freebies and tutorials over at Kind Over Matter. You'll be glad you did!
We're also happy to announce that the winner of the giveaway from Sarah Donnell is comment number 36 - Anna. Congratulations! We'll be in touch with you super soon.
sara: partings
Forgive us for the lack of posts these past few days, things have been rough here in nashpopland...
All last week I was dealing with having thrown my back out. Nothing was
helping it, not even a visit to the chiropractor. I spent the whole
weekend laid out on the couch, pretty much unable to move. I finally
ended up getting seen at urgent care Sunday morning and they gave me an
injection of anti-inflammatory.
Trogdor was sick last week and we had to leave him at the vet for two days to get fluids and meds. Over the weekend, he kept throwing up and then stopped eating. Not looking good.
So yeah, yesterday I went to work with my back still gimped up and hurting. Trogdor went back to the vet to get a checkup. They gave him fluids but then got his bloodtest results back from last week. The prognosis was bad. He was headed into renal failure. That, on top of the pre-existing diabetes that he's had for the last three years (insulin injections 2x a day, special food, etc) was just too much. The vet told us it was "time."
Left work early to hug and hold him and kiss his little head. Then we went to the vet and held him while he exited the world. So fucking hard to do, even when you know it's the right thing, and the unselfish thing. It was time to let him go. He was 12 years old and seriously the most consistent thing I've had in my adult life. All the times I've moved, changed jobs, changed relationships... that cat was there for me. He could tell when I was sick and would hang out and worry over me. He was the cat who convinced J that cats were awesome and worth having. He was amazing. He was Trogdor the Burninator.

thrift share monday: back to school
Fall break ended and I started back to school today, but that didn't keep Evey and I from having one last hoorah at the thrift stores this weekend! I scored some really awesome stuff too!
How adorable is this mug?!?!?! It made a perfect surprise gift for Jason this morning, left next to the coffee maker as I headed out the door to work. He was suitably impressed :)
I also snagged those two funky lamps. I am really digging the mom holding the baby monkey. I think Evey and I are going to try taping off some sections of the lamp on the right and doing some alternating colors when we paint it. What color should the monkeys be though? I can't decide...
You guys know I can't pass up anything religious and kitschy, right? This ceramic cross is about two feet long and in really good condition. Not sure where it's going to end up.
Lastly, this trio of gnomes just had to come home with me. It looks like they're ready to start their own rocking forest band! Evey found a set of gnomes as well but I'll let her reveal them in due time :)
What did you score at the thrifts recently?
pop in the shop: getting spooky
The spooky season is upon us, so we've been stocking up on all sorts of Halloween themed goodies. Instead of leaving the finding of skulls up to chance at the thrifts, we broke our rules a little to do a limited edition run of skulls found at wholesale. We are close to selling out, so get them while you can!
upcycling spotlight: bottle caps
Have you ever been cleaning up after a big get-together at your house and wondered if there was anything cool you could do with all of those bottle caps instead of just chucking them in the trash? Well, here are some neat ideas!
